CEERT thanks you for your support.

To members of the greater CEERT community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies (CEERT) ceased all operations effectively August 31, 2025. CEERT’s companion C4 advocacy organization, the Clean Power Campaign, also has ended all operations.

Over the last 35 years, CEERT has played an immeasurable role in the clean energy conversation in California. The model of bringing together environmental organizations with renewable and energy efficiency companies to develop a consensus for advocacy was new. CEERT advocated in the California Legislature and across numerous state, local, regional and federal regulatory agencies on the important role renewable energy should play. From the beginning step of a renewable “set aside” in the California Energy Commission’s ER 90 and the California Public Utilities Commission’s BRPU processes through each of the successive ratchets of the Renewable Portfolio Standard culminating in SB 100 that first codified an achievable goal of a carbon free, affordable, resilient electric system, CEERT was there to provide the analytical justification for proceeding to the next step in the transition. CEERT’s leadership demonstrated that a low carbon grid was not only achievable but also the most affordable and resilient approach to protect human health, the environment and ratepayers, address climate, advance environmental justice and social equity. Along the way, CEERT served as a training ground for young diverse talent entering clean energy and as a template for similar organizations in other regions of the country.

The CEERT board wishes to thank V. John White for his leadership over decades of these clean energy victories. We also wish to thank the staff, both past and present, who worked to make CEERT the strong voice that it was.

Even though CEERT’s doors are closed, it does not mean that the need for the work has ended. We know that this community is strong and resilient and will find new forums to make progress. Every year, CEERT has awarded a series of “clean power champions” to recognize individuals who were essential to making progress in California’s fight for a clean energy future. We now deputize each of you to be your own champion and continue the fight.

Sincerely,
The Staff and Board of Directors of CEERT and the Clean Power Campaign
